Horse Training Program

I think we all need our horses to have three qualities: Trust, Respect, and Yield (TRY). When we can teach our horses to TRY, we have created a safer environment while laying the foundation for creating a responsive and prepared partner. That is the basis of my techniques and the foundation of my program.

As much as we'd like to, not everyone has the necessary time, experience, or confidence required to do the training themselves. If this sounds like you, I hope you give my training program serious consideration when selecting a horse trainer. It may be the single most important decision you make in the development of a long term relationship you will have with your horse.

Who trains my horse?

I will personally train your horse, not an assistant or an apprentice. A student may work with your horse, but only to gain experience or feel what I have already taught. In order to dedicate the proper level of effort and attention your horse deserves there are never more than 10 horses in training at one time.

Why bring my horse to Pro Horsemanship?

If you want to bring out the best in your horse, Pro Horsemanship gives you and your horse the greatest opportunity for success.

Confidence, for you and your horse. You'll develop a better long term relationship and foundation with your horse through our effective training program.

What can I expect my horse to learn?

First and foremost, your horse will learn to TRY for you. However, you will be required to earn this TRY. The learning for your horse begins when they're unloaded at our Mineral Wells, Texas facility and only ends when you're confident you both have obtained your goals.

I work towards exposing them to as many everyday situations as possible in a safe environment. I work horses in my custom round pen, large covered arena, open pastures, and a variety of trail riding surroundings.

When complete, you will have a soft, respectful horse you can trust in competition, on the trail, or wherever your interests take you. Just as important, you will have the loyalty of a willing partner and confidence within yourself.

What is the approximate length of training?

The minimum training period for my program is 5 to 10 weeks, but is customized to your specific desires on a week-to-week basis after that. When your horse is at the level you are looking for, a complimentary private lesson is provided at our facility for you to have an exact understanding of the foundation under your horse.

What is the cost of training?

Training is $225 per week. For that your horse will be trained an average of 5 days per week. Included in that price is boarding, alfalfa, daily dewormer and initial deworming. All horses are dewormed when they arrive at the facility. We also offer a majority of general horse care services (i.e., hoof trimming ($40), shoeing ($80), etc.) at additional costs. Any additional feed or supplement requested for your horse will be at the owner's expense. Please inquire about current services and prices.

Strictly for the safety and health of your horse, we respectfully reserve the right to summon veterinary assistance if we feel your horse is in any medical danger and we are unable to reach the owner before hand.

If unforeseen circumstances arise and your horse needs some time off, you will not be charged for training, but a $15 a day boarding fee will be assessed.

What is the value to me of having my horse trained by Travis?

First, and foremost, you will have a willing, respectful and responsive partner ready for you to enjoy. An investment in your horse's education with Travis will increase your horse's value and make him more marketable should you choose to sell him in the future.
